Membership

Joining the Adelaide Bushwalkers takes you to new places you may never have heard of, off the beaten track, and to have new experiences, develop leadership skills, gain confidence and new skills and make amazing friendships.

The Adelaide Bushwalkers (ABW) is a walking club whose primary objective is to promote walking tours, particularly weekend and extended trips and to foster allied outdoor activities. To become a full member you must complete three overnight, pack-carrying walks. In your pack you will carry your tent, clothing, food and water and so it will weigh around 18 kg for a weekend walk. The club also conducts day walks and training walks of shorter duration which members enjoy after first qualifying.

There is a wealth of information and experience available through the other members, walks reports, books and magazines in the library and shared information that may not be available in other clubs.

After walking with the club for a few years, you may want to give back by encouraging new members, organising a trip, leading walks or becoming a committee member.

Qualifying

New members join as Prospective Members and are required to complete three qualifying walks within twelve months. Qualification is not demanding but ensures new members are able to participate comfortably and safely in basic overnight walks.

Full membership is obtained after completing three, overnight, qualifying walks. Qualifying walks are indicated on the program with a ‘Q’. The qualifying period may be extended in special circumstances.

Membership is open to all persons over 15, but those under the age of 18 must obtain their parent’s consent.
