I joined ABW in 1980, but I have no record of when Frank joined – maybe a year or two before that. From the time I joined ABW, Frank was a driving force in the Club. In due course, he was justly awarded Life Membership.
I formed a firm friendship with Frank, particularly as a result of the many walks and trips I shared with him
Sadly, a debilitating illness took hold of him, and he saw out his days in a nursing home at Hove near Brighton and died on 16th April this year.

A list of significant ABW events Frank took part in or initiated is as follows:
- Several 10-day walks to various mountainous parts of Tasmania (I participated in three)
- Numerous long weekend walks in the Flinders Ranges
- Several walks during the Clubs annual October long weekend bus trip to the Grampian in Victoria
- Club President 1988 – 1990
- A member of the ABW group that walked the whole of the Heysen Trail in about 17 stages, finishing in 2005
- Organized a great trip to Western Australia in 2002
- For some years, organised pre-meeting dinners before monthly meetings at various Adelaide eating houses
- For the Club’s 75th Anniversary, along with June Boscence, arranged a programme of half day walks.
An impressive list indeed – he was obviously a great asset to ABW, a club he loved dearly – very much a significant part if his life for best part of 30 years.

Frank was very thorough in anything he did, whether it be in private life or bushwalking matters. He was thoughtful and caring towards his wife and two children.
He fitted in well in groups, and was always considerate of the needs of individuals. In his working life, Frank was an industrial chemist working in the paint industry.
He was just a great guy to know. Frank will be greatly missed by ABW after he contributed so much to it, and of course I am missing him.
