The Walls of Jerusalem – Tasmania

The Walls of Jerusalem is a well established, well marked and scenic area of moderate grade walking. There are many options for moderate walks and climbs within the Walls area and also a number of options to access or leave the area one of the most popular being via the Overland Track.

ORATUNGA CREEK AND MT. ELKINGTON

This walk can be done as a 3 day (ie Long Week End) activity or extended over a longer period in this general area.

As outlined here it has been done as an option for the ABW annual bus trip to the Flinders Ranges. It is a mostly moderate grade suitable for new or less experienced members.

Parachilna to the Pound (Parachilna Gorge to Wilpena Pound)

(4 night pack walk): 63km of the Heysen trail from Parachilna Gorge trailhead to Wilpena Pound, then 3 nights car camping at Wilpena pound inlcuding 2 day walk: St Marys Peak and Rawnsley Bluff lookout.

Gluepot Reserve north of Waikerie

This qualifying walk in Gluepot Reserve was executed over 2 days. This bird sanctuary owned and managed by Birds Australia is on 50,000 hectares of semi-arid Mallee scrub. It is part of the largest block of intact Mallee left in Australia, and is home to many endangered bird species. It provides easy and flat walking trails which facilitate good animal and bird spotting opportunities as you don’t have to spend all day watching your step.

NZ – Mt Aspiring Circuit

This outlines an 8 day walk in the NZ Mt Aspiring national park. This walk is well marked , popular and there are both huts and camping facilities. The walk outlined here includes two worthwhile side trips. Current details, permits and maps should sought from the NZ Dept of Conservation (DOC) (This walk was organised and lead by Andrew Cope)

New Zealand – Routeburn and Kepler Track ‘Great Walks’ .

These are two well know ‘Great Walks’ in NZ . They are well known, popular, well used, well serviced, spectacular and worth doing. They involve overnight camping in huts or, in one case, in tents.

Sequoia National Park, California, USA.

The Grampians – Mt Rosea Circuit.

This walk has been done as a 2.5 day walk as part of an ABW LWE bus trip to the Grampians and based at Borough Huts. It mostly follows now disused tracks which have become overgrown in recent years and can be difficult and slow in places.

Southern Grampians Mt N.M.Gadjin

2.5 day walk (long weekend), starting from Borough Huts campground. Climbing Mt Ngarra Mananinja Gadjin (droping packs), then down Bovine Ck. Visit to Glenbower falls on last morning.
